Daxter

So Daxter is set just before he rescues Jak in Jak 2 and after his usual generous stories about himself in a bar, ends up as a bug exterminator with an electrified flyswatter and when I say bugs, I mean metalheads.
And so how else do you fight bugs, why a bug gas gun, that's how. Basically Daxter is basically a Jak game, but you play as Daxter and while it's not made by Naughty Dog, there's no hint of betrayal to the franchise, Ready at Dawn... yes, the guys who made THIS ABOMINATION....
But here, the world is perfect, granted complete lack of public in the Haven City overworld, but that's cause you're in a part of the city still under construction, but beyond that, what you do see is identical to the Haven City from Jak 2.
The amount of attention to detail is amazing, I mean they could of phoned this game in but nope, it's actually excellent and like it's portable nature is probably the easiest to pick up and play.
So the plot is basically Daxter does bug hunting jobs whilst he tries to find Jak and save him and that's basically it and that's all it needs to be as Daxter's wit and jokes help keep the plot going. Now like the Jak games you unlock weapons through the story, but that's the bug gas gun instead of an actually gun, which can be upgraded with a booster that lets you glide...
A flamethrower and the most powerful weapon in the Jak series, okay second most powerful thanks to Jak 3, the peacemaker. You can also crawl on certain walls and railings, things that Jak could never grip but Daxter can because of his small size.

Now throughout the levels you can find combat bugs for a minigame where you fight bugs against either the cpu or another player by basically pokemon fighting them.

You will also find throughout levels precursor orbs which are slightly more common than in Jak 2 and 3 but rarer than in Jak and Daxter. Collecting these unlock dream sequences which when beaten give you either new moves or more health and these are well Q.T.Es which if they weren't so hilariously stupid would be annoying so to not spoil to much, they're all movie references and since the game hands you this one anyway.
You also get to drive Zoomers in certain levels as well, which again plays just like in Jak 2 and 3.
Now at the time this game became the measuring bar of what the PSP could do and it's level design is varied and well designed, I mean we have a level that rips off Metal Gear Solid...
to a level where you jump across fast moving trains.
Though the game is not very long, it's quite short really and it's story is kinda short as well but it doesn't need to be massively long, it's but a simple tail of a tiny sidekick as he tries to save his best friend. So like the rest of the games I've reviewed so far, it's totally worth picking up and playing and trust me on this series is brilliant and could never be ruined.
Look... forget those other things, the Jak series is awesome!
So next time after looking at five straight up good games, it'll be time for a shit storm again and it smells like... something starting with B and ending in Trayal.
